Media Minister launches forum to advise on the future of UK television

Culture Secretary Michelle Donelan has today (Tuesday 8 November) launched a new forum to advise the Government on the future of UK television.

The Future of TV Forum will bring together industry leaders, academics and consumer groups to consider the challenges and opportunities facing the sector.

It will advise on a range of issues, including:

  • The impact of streaming services on traditional broadcasting
  • The need for investment in UK content
  • The future of public service broadcasting
  • The role of regulation in the TV sector

Speaking at the launch event, the Culture Secretary said:

“The UK has a world-leading television industry, but it is facing significant challenges from the rise of streaming services.

“This forum will bring together the best and brightest minds in the sector to advise the Government on how we can support the UK’s TV industry to thrive in the years to come.”

The forum will be chaired by David Elstein, the former chief executive of Channel 5 and the founder of Sky News.

  • Dorothy Byrne, chief executive of the Advertising Standards Authority
  • Claire Enders, founder and chief executive of Enders Analysis

  • Eileen Gallagher, chief executive of Channel 4
  • Carolyn Hayman, former chief executive of the Royal Television Society
  • Ian Katz, chief executive of Channel 4
  • Will Lewis, chairman of the Media Trust
  • David Lynn, chief executive of UKTV
  • Peter Murray, chief executive of Channel 5
  • Kevin Peake, chief executive of the Commercial Broadcasters Association
  • Alex Salmond, former First Minister of Scotland and former chairman of STV
  • Caroline Thomson, chief executive of the British Screen Advisory Council
  • Christopher Whittall, director of the Institute of Economic Affairs
  • Ian Whittingham, chief executive of the Advertising Association

The forum will meet for the first time on 22 November 2022.
