Lopa Patel and Nigel Baker appointed to The National Archives Board

Lopa Patel and Nigel Baker have been appointed as members of the Board of The National Archives for a period of three years.
The National Archives Board is responsible for the strategic direction of The National Archives’ work to preserve and make accessible the nation’s public record.
Biographies
Lopa Patel is the Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Professional Development (CIPD), the professional body for HR and people development. She is also a member of the Council of the University of Southampton and an Honorary Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and the Institute of Directors (IoD). Lopa is a Non-Executive Director of United Utilities Group, a FTSE 100 water and wastewater company, and a Board Member of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), a global professional body for managers.
Nigel Baker is Deputy Keeper of the Records of Scotland, the Director of National Records of Scotland (NRS), the official archive for Scotland and one of the UK’s three national archives. He is responsible for NRS’s Public Records (Scotland) Act functions and for managing historical records in central and local government, for the Scottish courts and for private organisations in Scotland. Nigel is also responsible for providing professional advice on archives and records management to Scottish public bodies.

Lopa Patel and Nigel Baker replace Simone Finn and Jane Robinson who both completed their terms of office on 6 November 2024.
The appointments were made by the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice by virtue of his powers under section 1(2) of the Public Records Act 1958, as amended, and were approved by the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.
