Public exhibitions for Hurst Spit to Lymington
06 November 2024
Public exhibitions will be held in November to showcase plans for a new marine conservation zone (MCZ) between Hurst Spit and Lymington.
The proposed MCZ would cover an area of approximately 8 square kilometres and would be the first in the UK to be designated specifically for the protection of seagrass beds.
Seagrass beds are important marine habitats that provide food and shelter for a variety of marine life, including fish, shellfish and seabirds. They also help to filter water and reduce coastal erosion.
The Hurst Spit to Lymington MCZ would be one of a network of MCZs around the UK that are designed to protect important marine habitats and species.
The public exhibitions will be held at the following locations:
- Lymington Town Hall on November 14th from 10am to 4pm
- Hurst Castle on November 15th from 10am to 4pm
Members of the public are encouraged to attend the exhibitions and give their feedback on the proposals.
The consultation period will run until December 12th.
More information about the proposed MCZ can be found on the Natural England website: [link to website]
