Federal government supports projects for Veterans experiencing or at risk of homelessness
Ottawa, Ontario – November 6, 2024 – The Government of Canada is investing up to $7.3 million to support 11 projects that will help Veterans experiencing or at risk of homelessness access safe and affordable housing, health and counselling services, and employment opportunities.
“Every Veteran deserves a safe and stable place to call home,” said the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, Lawrence MacAulay. “These projects will provide much-needed support to Veterans who are struggling with homelessness, and help them rebuild their lives with dignity and purpose.”
The funding is being provided through the Veterans Homelessness Program, which supports organizations that provide services to Veterans who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The projects being funded include:
- $1.5 million to the Royal Canadian Legion to provide transitional housing and support services to Veterans in Ottawa, Ontario.
- $1.2 million to the Veterans Transition Network to provide housing and support services to Veterans in Vancouver, British Columbia.
- $1 million to the True Patriot Love Foundation to provide housing and support services to Veterans in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
- $900,000 to the Valour Place Society to provide housing and support services to Veterans in Edmonton, Alberta.
- $750,000 to the Canadian Mental Health Association to provide mental health and counselling services to Veterans across Canada.
- $750,000 to the Salvation Army to provide transitional housing and support services to Veterans in Toronto, Ontario.
- $500,000 to the Mission Old Brewery to provide housing and support services to Veterans in Montreal, Quebec.
- $500,000 to the Inn from the Cold to provide housing and support services to Veterans in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
- $400,000 to the Calgary Drop-In Centre to provide housing and support services to Veterans in Calgary, Alberta.
- $300,000 to the Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver to provide housing and support services to female Veterans in Vancouver, British Columbia.
- $200,000 to the Native Women’s Association of Canada to provide housing and support services to Indigenous Veterans in Ottawa, Ontario.
These projects will help to address the unique needs of Veterans who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness, and help them to rebuild their lives with dignity and purpose.
