Ministers Joly, Ng and Hussen to attend the Canada-African Union Commission High-Level Dialogue

OTTAWA, ON, Nov. 5, 2024 /CNW/ – Today, the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, and the Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion, announced that they will attend the Canada-African Union Commission High-Level Dialogue in Ottawa on November 9 and 10, 2024.

The Dialogue is an opportunity for Canada and the African Union Commission to strengthen their partnership and advance shared priorities, including:

  • Promoting economic growth and sustainable development
  • Advancing peace and security
  • Addressing climate change and environmental sustainability
  • Promoting democracy and human rights

The Ministers will hold bilateral meetings with their African counterparts to discuss these issues and explore ways to deepen cooperation. They will also participate in a series of roundtables and discussions with African and Canadian stakeholders.

“Canada and Africa have a long history of partnership and cooperation,” said Minister Joly. “This Dialogue is an opportunity to strengthen our ties and work together to address the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.”

“Canada is committed to supporting Africa’s economic growth and sustainable development,” said Minister Ng. “This Dialogue will allow us to explore new opportunities for trade and investment, and to promote job creation and prosperity in both Canada and Africa.”

“Canada and Africa share a commitment to democracy, human rights, and the rule of law,” said Minister Hussen. “This Dialogue is an opportunity to strengthen our cooperation on these important issues and to promote a more just and equitable world.”

The Canada-African Union Commission High-Level Dialogue is a key part of Canada’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Africa. It is an opportunity to build on the progress made at the Canada-Africa Summit in 2018 and to advance shared priorities for the future.
