MP Chahal Announces Federal Investments to Grow Alberta’s Aerospace and Aviation Industry

November 4, 2024

Calgary, AB – Randeep Sarai, Member of Parliament for Calgary Skyview, on behalf of the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, today announced a series of federal investments that will support the growth of Alberta’s aerospace and aviation industry.

The investments, totaling over $50 million, will be used to:

  • Establish a new Aerospace Innovation Hub at the University of Calgary.
  • Support the development of new aerospace technologies through research and development grants.
  • Provide training and skills development opportunities for workers in the aerospace and aviation sector.

“These investments will help Alberta’s aerospace and aviation industry to grow and create good-paying jobs for Canadians,” said MP Sarai. “Our government is committed to supporting the growth of this important sector.”

The Aerospace Innovation Hub will be a focal point for research and development in the aerospace and aviation sector. It will bring together researchers, industry partners, and government agencies to work on the development of new technologies and products.

The research and development grants will support projects that are focused on the development of new aerospace technologies, such as electric and hybrid-electric aircraft, and advanced materials.

The training and skills development opportunities will provide workers in the aerospace and aviation sector with the skills they need to succeed in the future.

“These investments will help to position Alberta as a leader in the global aerospace and aviation industry,” said David Curtis, President and CEO of the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada. “We applaud the government’s commitment to this important sector.”

The aerospace and aviation industry is a major contributor to the Canadian economy, generating over $25 billion in revenue and employing over 225,000 people. Alberta is home to a significant portion of the Canadian aerospace and aviation industry, with over 500 companies and organizations operating in the province.

The federal government’s investments in Alberta’s aerospace and aviation industry are part of its broader Innovation and Skills Plan, which is designed to help Canada compete in the global economy.
