Employment and Social Development Canada Launches New Life Event Hub to Support Canadians Experiencing Loss

Ottawa, ON – November 4, 2024 – Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) today announced the launch of a new life event hub, a centralized online resource designed to provide comprehensive support to Canadians experiencing loss.

The life event hub brings together information and resources from across ESDC and its partners, including:

  • Bereavement support: Information on accessing counseling, support groups, and financial assistance for those who have lost a loved one.
  • Disability support: Resources for individuals with disabilities and their families, including information on accessing benefits and services.
  • Job loss support: Guidance and assistance for those who have lost their job, including employment counseling, training programs, and income support.
  • Income support: Information on accessing income support programs, such as Employment Insurance (EI) and the Canada Pension Plan (CPP).
  • Legal support: Resources to help Canadians navigate legal issues related to loss, such as estate planning and probate.

“Losing a loved one, experiencing a disability, or losing your job can be devastating,” said Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion. “The life event hub is a one-stop shop for Canadians who need support during these difficult times.”

The hub is designed to be user-friendly and accessible to Canadians of all ages and abilities. It features plain language content, a searchable database, and easy-to-follow instructions.

“We know that losing someone or experiencing other major life events can be overwhelming,” said Dr. Shauna Denis, Director of Bereavement Services at ESDC. “The life event hub provides a centralized location for Canadians to find the support they need, when they need it.”

The life event hub is available online at: www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/services/life-event-hub.
