Governments of Canada and Quebec to Announce Investments in Forest Industry Transformation
October 30, 2024
Montreal, Quebec – The Governments of Canada and Quebec will announce significant investments to support the transformation of the forest industry in Canada.
The announcement will be made at a joint press conference by the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister of Public Services and Procurement, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, and the Honourable Pierre Fitzgibbon, Minister of Economy and Innovation for Quebec.
The investments will focus on supporting innovation and technology adoption, as well as enhancing the competitiveness of the forest industry and creating new jobs.
The forest industry is a vital part of the Canadian economy, contributing over $24 billion to the GDP and employing over 230,000 people. It is also a major contributor to the fight against climate change, as forests absorb carbon dioxide and help regulate the climate.
The investments announced today will help the forest industry to continue to play a key role in the Canadian economy, while also supporting the transition to a low-carbon future.
The press conference will be held at the following time and location:
Date: October 30, 2024 Time: 9:00 AM EST Location: Hotel Château Laurier, 1 Rideau Street, Ottawa, Ontario
Please note that the press conference will also be available via live stream on the Government of Canada website.
