Welsh Secretary sees plans for a new clean energy hub
The Welsh Secretary has seen first-hand plans for a new clean energy hub in south Wales.
David TC Davies MP visited the Port of Milford Haven on October 28 to meet with energy company, 8 Rivers, who are developing the £2 billion Green Hydrogen Hub.
The plans will see the development of an import facility for green ammonia that will be converted into hydrogen at the hub, which will be used to decarbonise industry in south Wales.
The project is expected to create around 1,000 jobs and help to reduce carbon emissions by up to 1 million tonnes per year.
The Welsh Secretary said: “The Green Hydrogen Hub is a major investment in the future of south Wales and the UK’s net zero ambitions.
“The project will create hundreds of jobs and help to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, while also supporting the growth of new industries in the region.”
8 Rivers CEO, Brandon David, said: “We are delighted to have the support of the Welsh Secretary for our Green Hydrogen Hub.
“This project has the potential to transform the energy landscape in south Wales and create a new hub for the production and use of clean energy.”
The Port of Milford Haven is one of the largest ports in the UK and is well-positioned to become a major hub for the import and export of clean energy.
The port is already home to a number of energy-related businesses, including a major oil refinery and a liquefied natural gas terminal.
The Green Hydrogen Hub is expected to be operational by 2025.
