OTTAWA, ONTARIO – The Honourable David Lametti, P.C., Q.C., Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following judicial appointments in the province of British Columbia:

  • Me Marie-France Major to the Supreme Court of British Columbia

The Honourable Wendy Hughes

Justice Hughes was first appointed to the British Columbia Provincial Court in 2003. She was appointed to the British Columbia Court of Appeal in 2016.

Justice Hughes obtained her law degree from the University of British Columbia in 1981. She was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1982 and to the Yukon Bar in 1983.

Justice Hughes practiced family law and was a prolific writer and lecturer in the area of family law for 20 years before her appointment to the bench. She has served as an expert witness in family law cases, and has been a member of the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia’s Family Law Executive since 1995.

Me Marie-France Major

Me Major was first appointed to the British Columbia Provincial Court in 2012.
