Ottawa, Ontario, October 28, 2024 – The Honourable David Lametti, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following judicial appointment under the new judicial application process established in 2016.

Tax Court of Canada

  • The Honourable Renée Pomerleau, a partner at Caron, Bélanger, Ernst & Young LLP in Québec, has been appointed a Judge of the Tax Court of Canada. She replaces the Honourable Lemieux who elected to become a supernumerary judge effective August 13, 2024.

Biography of Justice Renée Pomerleau

Justice Pomerleau obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1988 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1992 from Université Laval. She was admitted to the Barreau du Québec in 1993.

Before her appointment, Justice Pomerleau was a partner at Caron, Bélanger, Ernst & Young LLP in Québec, where she practised exclusively in the area of tax litigation representing taxpayers before all levels of court. She also represented clients before the Tax Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Justice Pomerleau has been a member of the Barreau du Québec’s Taxation Committee since 2006. She is frequently invited to speak at conferences and seminars and has authored several publications on taxation. She was a Lecturer at Université Laval’s Law Faculty on the subjects of taxation for several years.
