The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and the Royal Navy have signed a contract for a major construction project in Cornwall.
The £200 million project will see the construction of a new training facility at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose, near Helston. The facility will provide state-of-the-art training facilities for the Royal Navy’s aircrew, including a new flight simulator and a new air traffic control tower.
The project is expected to create up to 200 jobs during construction, and will support a further 100 jobs once it is completed.
DIO’s Project Manager, Colonel Mike Taylor, said: “This is a major investment in the Royal Navy’s future, and will provide the aircrew with the world-class training facilities they need to operate in the modern world.”
The Royal Navy’s Commodore Mark Sparrow, said: “This new training facility will be a vital asset for the Royal Navy, and will help us to continue to train the best aircrew in the world.”
The construction project is expected to be completed in 2027.
