Federal Councillor Parmelin renews vocational education and training agreement with USA
Bern, 05.10.2022 – On Wednesday, 5 October, Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin and US Secretary of Labor Martin J. Walsh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) renewing and expanding cooperation on vocational education and training (VET) between Switzerland and the USA. The MoU aims to promote the exchange of expertise and best practices, as well as student and teacher mobility.
The MoU is a continuation of the successful cooperation between the two countries in the field of VET. Since 2015, hundreds of Swiss VET learners have spent time in the USA, and vice versa. The MoU will further strengthen this cooperation and expand it to include new areas such as digitalisation and sustainability.
Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin said: “This MoU is a sign of the growing importance of vocational education and training worldwide. Switzerland and the USA are both committed to providing young people with the skills they need to succeed in the 21st century workforce.”

The MoU was signed at the Swiss embassy in Washington, D.C. in the presence of Swiss Ambassador to the USA Jacques Pitteloud and US Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Lee Satterfield.
