Bury director jailed after failing to produce accounts for company which owed more than £200,000 in tax
A Bury director has been jailed for failing to produce accounts for his company to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) which owed more than £200,000 in tax.
Talal Hussain, 43, of Radcliffe, was handed a six-month prison sentence at Minshull Street Crown Court on 26th May 2023.
Hussain failed to file accounts, tax returns and corporation tax payments for Universal Print Services Ltd between June 2014 and March 2019, resulting in a tax liability of £203,090.
Investigators found that the company had been trading whilst insolvent and, despite being chased, Hussain failed to co-operate with HMRC by providing the necessary accounting records.
Hussain was previously disqualified from acting as a company director for eight years in May 2020, following an investigation by the Insolvency Service.
Speaking after the hearing, Paul Barton, Assistant Director, Fraud Investigation Service, HMRC, said:
“Despite being given numerous opportunities to comply with his duties as a company director, Talal Hussain chose to ignore the law.
“HMRC will not tolerate such behaviour and we will continue to pursue those who deliberately set out to cheat the taxpayer.”
