Italy-OECD, Minister Zangrillo opens proceedings of the Global Forum

Rome – Minister for Public Administration Renato Brunetta inaugurated this morning the Global Forum on Public Sector Integrity, organized by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and hosted for two days by the Agenzia per l’Italia Digitale – AgID. The forum, which is being held in hybrid mode at the Ministry of Public Administration, will see the participation of 350 delegates from 50 countries and 15 international organizations and will focus on four main themes: the post-pandemic reconstruction, digitalization, transparency and accountability, and the role of public officials. “This forum – said Minister Brunetta – is a further opportunity to share with the international community Italy’s actions and our vision of Public Administration, in the belief that this is a key factor for the growth of our country and for relaunching the global economy. Today, in collaboration with the OECD – added Brunetta – we are launching the “Integrity in the Public Sector: A Toolkit for Practitioners”, a precious tool that will help public administrations to implement concrete measures to strengthen integrity and combat corruption”.

The OECD Toolkit for Practitioners on Public Sector Integrity is a practical guide that provides step-by-step guidance on how to design and implement integrity initiatives in the public sector. The Toolkit is based on the OECD’s Recommendation on Public Sector Integrity, which was adopted in 2017.

The Toolkit is divided into four sections:

  1. Preventing Corruption
  2. Promoting Ethical Conduct
  3. Enhancing Transparency and Accountability
  4. Empowering Citizens and Stakeholders

Each section provides guidance on how to develop and implement policies and practices that promote integrity and prevent corruption. The Toolkit also includes case studies and examples of good practices from around the world.

The Toolkit is a valuable resource for public sector officials, policymakers, and other stakeholders who are working to promote integrity and prevent corruption in the public sector.

The forum was opened by a speech by OECD Secretary General Mathias Cormann, who stressed the importance of public sector integrity for economic growth and social progress. “Public sector integrity is essential for building trust between citizens and their governments – said Cormann – and for ensuring that public resources are used effectively and efficiently”.

The forum will continue tomorrow with a series of round tables and workshops on the four main themes of the event. Among the speakers will be the Minister for Innovation and Digital Transition Vittorio Colao, the Minister for the South Mara Carfagna, the CEO of AgID Francesco Paorici, and the Deputy Minister for Public Administration Mattia Fantinati.
